Pick up = to lift someone or something
• Pick me up, Daddy!
• kids picking up shells at the beach
• I picked up the phone just as it stopped ringing.
Pick up = to collect someone or something, especially using a car
• I'll pick up my stuff around six, okay?
• What time should we pick you up at the airport?
Pick sb up = if the police pick someone up, they arrest them or ask them questions
Give sth up = to admit that you cannot do something and stop trying to finish it
· He has given up trying to teach me Russian.
Give yourself /or sb up = to allow yourself or someone else to be caught by the police or enemy soldiers
• He gave himself up after police surrounded the property.
Give up on = to stop hoping that someone will do something, or that something will happen
• The doctors had almost given up on her when she came out of the coma.
come up = to move towards someone
• A young girl came up to me and asked for money.
Come up = to be mentioned or talked about in conversation
• What points came up at the meeting?
Come up = appear
• When the sun or moon comes up, it rises.
• If information comes up on a computer screen, it appears there.
